Federal health officials have announced a recall of over 40 “Fresh Spinach” products after tests revealed listeria contamination.
Solata Foods LLC, based in Newburgh, New York, has recalled its “Fresh Spinach” after the presence of listeria was confirmed, according to a notice from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The contamination was discovered through testing by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Market Food Inspectors, with further analysis by Food Laboratory personnel. A 9-ounce package of Bogopa fresh spinach tested positive for listeria, prompting the recall and a halt in production of the affected product.
The recalled spinach products, available in various sizes, were distributed to local retailers. While no illnesses have been reported so far, consumers are advised to return the products for a full refund.

Listeria Side Effects
Listeriosis, the illness caused by listeria, can range from mild to severe, with symptoms including fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In more serious cases, it can lead to headaches, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions.
Consumers who have purchased any of the recalled spinach products should return them to the place of purchase for a full refund, according to Solata Foods, LLC.
