Salmonella Concerns Prompt Hy-Vee, Schnucks to Recall Cream Cheese

Concerns over potential salmonella contamination have prompted both Hy-Vee and Schnucks to recall various cream cheese spread products.

Hy-Vee is recalling plain whipped cream cheese, plain cream cheese, and cookies & cream mix as a precautionary measure, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced. These products, sold under Hy-Vee’s private label and bulk packaging programs, were manufactured at different third-party facilities across the Midwest. While there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions, Hy-Vee voluntarily initiated the recall after being notified by the manufacturers.

Schnucks is also recalling three of its cheese spreads due to possible salmonella contamination. The affected products include Schnucks whip cream spread, strawberry spread, and cream cheese spread.

Which Products are Affected?

According to the FDA, the impacted Hy-Vee products were distributed to various locations, including Hy-Vee, Hy-Vee Drugstore, Dollar Fresh Market, and Hy-Vee Fast and Fresh convenience stores across eight states: Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Other varieties of Hy-Vee cream cheese or bulk-packaged items are not affected by this recall.
