Recall Alert: Tahini Pulled from Shelves Over Salmonella Concerns

February 29, 2024 – The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a recall for a widely-distributed tahini product in several states due to potential Salmonella contamination.

The affected product is the Roland brand Tahini (100% Ground Sesame Seeds), available in 16-ounce containers and sold in retail stores between September 2023 and January 2024. Consumers are urged to check for the production code X0419, UPC number 10041224701509 beneath the barcode, and a best by date of October 19, 2024, on the impacted bottles.

The recall stems from findings during routine sampling conducted by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, which identified Salmonella in the product. While no reported illnesses are currently linked to this recall, it is important to note that Salmonella is a contagious foodborne infection.

Symptoms of Salmonella infection typically include fever, stomach cramps, and diarrhea, lasting up to 7 days. While most cases are not life-threatening, severe instances may necessitate hospitalization. Individuals experiencing these symptoms after consuming the recalled Roland Tahini are advised to seek prompt medical attention.

Consumers in possession of the affected product are urged to dispose of it immediately. For inquiries related to this recall, the company has established a hotline reachable at 800-622-1823, operating from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST.
